Willett "🍬💣" 7 Year FE Rye, Single Barrel #624

Snapshot 25-05-2020 13:33.PNG

Willett is one of the greatest American bottlers of sourced whiskey.  Arguably eclipsing Van Winkle or BTAC collectibility, Willett holds supreme status on any American Whiskey Anoraak’s shelf.

This 7 year old Rye from MGP, bottled by Willett circa 2013 was one of the first Rye whiskeys I ever purchased in 2013.

Willett 7 Year FE Rye, Single Barrel 624 // 🍬💣

ABV: 60.4% // 120.8 proof

Age: 7 years

Distillery: MGP

Distilled: 2006

Bottled: 2013

Color: Radiant Copper

Non-chill filtered, Natural Color

Nose: MGP Holiness. Bubblegum and sweet pickle. Vanilla & caramel in perfect proportion.  Some campfire notes, campfire wood and a sweet American oak smokeyness - not in the Scotch sense.  Beautiful crystal clear rye grains, baking spices and cotton candy.

Not a rolodex of notes but what it offers, it offers in spades.  Lots of green notes, but not herbaceous

Palate: Full Bodied & gorgeous. Sweet, spice. Bubblegum Bomb through and through, more pickle juice with a sweet brininess. Heaps of caramel. Sweet and spice in perfect ratio. Stellar MGP profile.

Finish: Long. Bubble Gum & rich black pepper.  Big barrel char notes.  Stunning Rye and more baking spices. Rye grains, black pepper and oak smoke linger and linger but the bubble gum lasts the longest.

Bourbon and House Rating: 89.5

Not a complex rye, but shows great finesse in MGP swagger.  Signature sweet pickle brininess and bubble gum define this rye.
